Small kitchen appliances, cookware, storage, curtains, lamps, planters, garden tools and décor all sit in this band. Individually these are low-value items, which makes this the budget where buying several things from one seller in one trip matters more than anything else.
Bundle, or the trip is not worth it
A ₹600 mixer is a good buy until you spend ₹300 on travel to collect it. The way to shop this budget is to look for sellers clearing out a kitchen or a home, then ask what else they have. People who list one item at this price usually have five more, and most will happily group them. Search by your own locality first and filter by price — proximity is worth more than a small difference in asking price here.
Testing small appliances
- Mixers and grinders. Run every speed, ideally with a short load. Check the jars for cracks, the blades for blunting and the gaskets for perishing — those are the parts that fail, and replacements are only worth buying if they are still made for that model.
- Kettles and heating appliances. Boil a little water and check for leaks and scale inside. Heavy scale means it was used with hard water and rarely descaled.
- Induction cooktops. Test with your own vessel — not every pan works on induction, and the seller's might not represent yours.
- Cables and plugs. Inspect the full cable length for tape, joins or exposed wire. This is a safety issue, not a cosmetic one.
- Model number. Note it and check whether spare parts and jars are still available. That single check decides whether a cheap appliance is a bargain or a paperweight.
Garden items and décor
Check planters and pots for hairline cracks by tapping them and looking along the rim and base — a cracked pot fails the first time it is watered and moved. Ask for the size and material, because ceramic and concrete planters are much heavier than they look and will not fit in a car boot. On garden tools, check for rust on the working edge and make sure handles are firm and not split. On curtains, ask the drop and width measurements and whether rods and hooks are included.
Collecting
Ask the seller to have everything out and ready so you can check the whole lot at once, test anything electrical before paying, and pay on collection.
