Where to Sell Collectibles in Lucknow – Old Coins, Notes & Antiques
Lucknow’s old families hold heirlooms from the nawabi era of Awadh — coins minted by the rulers of Awadh, British India coins and notes, silverware, paandaans and attardaans, old chikankari and zardozi pieces, and furniture. The markets of Aminabad and Chowk, and the Sunday market at Nakhas, have long traded in this kind of old goods.
If you want to sell collectibles in Lucknow, or buy them, a face-to-face deal with a local collector is the safest way. Listing is free, with no commission.

To local collectors. A free listing reaches collectors across Lucknow who can examine your coins, notes or antiques in person and pay you directly.
Dealers in the old city. Shops in Chowk and Aminabad buy old silver, coins and curios, but they need a resale margin, so their offer is usually below what a collector will pay. Use it as your floor.
Coin and stamp fairs. These are held from time to time and are a good place to learn prices before you sell.
Watch out for the “old coin buyer” scam
A very common fraud offers lakhs for an old coin or a “786” note, then asks the seller to pay a registration fee, GST, processing charge or an “RBI certificate” fee first. It is always a scam — real buyers pay you, not the other way round. The Reserve Bank of India does not buy, sell or certify old coins and notes, and has publicly warned about fraudsters misusing its name. Never pay anything to sell, never share an OTP and never scan a QR code to “receive” money. Selling to a buyer you meet in person, who pays on the spot, avoids this completely.
Authenticity and condition
Do not clean coins. Polishing strips the original surface and most of the value.
Grade honestly. Sharp detail, lustre and undamaged rims matter more than age. Awadh coins carry Persian inscriptions, so compare with reliable reference images.
Copies. Old silver coins are often copied. Check weight, detail and the edge for casting seams; silver is not magnetic.
Silverware. Look for hallmarks or maker’s marks, and check whether a piece is solid silver or silver-plated before agreeing a price.
Textiles. For old chikankari or zardozi, check for moth damage, tarnished zari and weak fabric at the folds.
Pricing, law and selling tips
There is no fixed price list. Compare current listings and more than one dealer quote, and ignore online claims that a common coin is worth a fortune. Genuine antiques over a hundred years old may be covered by the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972, which restricts sale and bars export. When selling, photograph both sides of coins in daylight, give the year, ruler and condition, and meet in a public place such as a busy market or mall.
