Where to Sell Collectibles in Hyderabad – Old Coins, Notes & Antiques
Hyderabad State issued its own coins and notes under the Nizams, and they still turn up in family collections alongside British India coins, stamps, bidriware, old brass, silver and furniture from the Old City around Charminar and Laad Bazaar.
If you are wondering where to sell collectibles in Hyderabad, or want to buy them, a face-to-face deal with a local collector is the safest route. Listing is free, with no commission and no fees.

To local collectors. A free listing lets collectors across Hyderabad and Secunderabad see your items, examine them in person and pay you directly.
Old City dealers. The lanes around Charminar and Laad Bazaar have long traded in antiques, curios and old silver. Dealers need a resale margin, so treat their offer as a floor, not the ceiling.
Collector meets and fairs. Coin and stamp fairs happen from time to time and are useful for learning prices before you sell.
Do not fall for the “old coin buyer” scam
A widespread fraud promises lakhs for an old coin, a Nizam note or a “786” note, then asks for a registration fee, tax, processing charge or an “RBI certificate” fee before paying. It is always a scam: genuine buyers never charge the seller. The Reserve Bank of India does not buy, sell or certify old coins and notes, and has publicly cautioned people about fraudsters using its name. Never pay anything to sell, never share an OTP and never scan a QR code to “receive” money. A buyer you meet in person, who examines the item and pays on the spot, is the safe alternative.
Condition is everything. Sharp inscriptions, original lustre and no rim damage matter more than age. Hyderabad State coins carry Urdu inscriptions, so compare with reliable reference photos.
Copies are common. Old silver coins are often cast or struck copies. Check weight, sharpness and the edge; silver is not magnetic.
Notes and stamps. Look for folds, pinholes, tears, stains and toning.
Antiques and bidri. Genuine bidriware has real silver inlaid into a blackened metal body; designs that look painted or printed on are imitations. The Salar Jung Museum is a good place to see what fine old pieces actually look like.
Pricing, law and selling tips
Compare with current listings and more than one dealer quote, and distrust any online claim that an ordinary coin is worth a fortune. Genuine antiques over a hundred years old may fall under the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972, which restricts sale and bars export. When selling, photograph both sides in daylight, state the year, ruler and condition honestly, and meet buyers in a public place.
