Hyderabad's wedding and festival calendar keeps high-quality occasion wear circulating — sarees, lehengas, sherwanis and suits worn once or twice — alongside branded everyday clothing, shoes and accessories from the city's large working population.

What to look for in Hyderabad
- Occasion wear — sarees, lehengas, sherwanis and suits, usually worn only for one event and often in excellent condition.
- Everyday branded clothing and shoes — from the IT corridor, where wardrobes turn over regularly.
- Bags and accessories — ask for the bill, box or dust bag on branded pieces.
- Kids' clothing — outgrown quickly and often barely worn. See baby & kids in Hyderabad.
Checking before you buy
Ask for measurements rather than the label size — chest, waist, shoulder and length for garments, insole length in centimetres for shoes — because sizing is inconsistent between brands. Ask how many times the item was worn, whether it has been altered, and when it was last cleaned. On embroidered and zari work, check for missing stones or beads and loose threads along the borders, and look at the fall and pallu of a saree where wear shows first. Test zips, hooks and fastenings, and examine underarms, collars and cuffs.
Meeting and paying
Meet somewhere public in daylight and look at the item properly — photographs make fabric look better than it is. Pay only on collection, and never send an advance or a token amount for clothing you have not seen.
