Pune's large student population and its IT workforce keep pre-owned clothing moving: branded everyday wear, jackets, shoes and bags, plus occasion wear that has been worn once or twice. It is a good city to buy well-made clothing cheaply.

What is on the market in Pune
- Branded everyday clothing and shoes — from Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner, Kharadi and Viman Nagar, usually lightly worn.
- Student wardrobes — jackets, casual wear and shoes around Kothrud, Karve Nagar and Sinhagad Road, listed heaviest at the end of the academic year.
- Occasion wear — sarees, lehengas and suits worn once for a wedding or festival.
- Layering and winter wear — Pune evenings get genuinely cool, so jackets and sweatshirts move well from November.
Fit, condition and damp
Ask for measurements rather than label sizes — chest, waist, shoulder, length, and insole length in centimetres for shoes — and ask whether the item has been altered. Pune's monsoon means clothing and leather stored in cupboards can pick up mildew: check for spotting inside linings and bags, smell the item, and make sure leather is supple rather than stiff. Look at underarms, collars, cuffs and hems for wear, and test every zip and fastening.
Meeting up
Meet in a public place in daylight and examine the item properly before paying — photographs flatter fabric. Pay on collection only, and never send an advance for clothing you have not seen.
