Buying beauty products safely
- Buy sealed. Check that the seal, cellophane or tamper strip is intact.
- Check expiry. Look for the expiry or manufacturing date on the pack. The open-jar symbol (for example "12M") shows how long a product lasts after opening.
- Watch for fakes, especially luxury perfumes and makeup: compare the packaging, fonts, batch code and bottle with the brand’s official product, and be wary of prices far below retail.
- Patch test any skincare product before using it fully.
Grooming and wellness devices
Test trimmers, hair dryers and straighteners before buying, and replace blades, heads or brushes for hygiene. For health devices such as massagers or fitness bands, check that they work and charge properly — and don’t rely on second-hand medical devices for medical decisions.
