Ads claiming that common coins or notes — such as a particular ₹5 or ₹10 coin, or notes with "786" in the serial number — are worth huge sums are usually misleading. Be very cautious of anyone who claims to buy coins on behalf of a bank or government body. Never pay any "registration", "tax" or "processing" fee to sell a coin or note.
Ask about the item’s history, look closely for signs of reproduction, and compare prices with similar pieces. Some very old items may be subject to legal rules, so check what applies before buying or selling them.
For original artwork, ask about the artist, a certificate of authenticity and the purchase record. For handicrafts, ask where and how the piece was made.
