Jaipur's long, dry summers make coolers and ACs a year-round category here, alongside the usual fridges, washing machines and microwaves coming out of apartments in Mansarovar, Vaishali Nagar, Jagatpura and Malviya Nagar.

Coolers and ACs in a dry climate
Jaipur's dry heat makes evaporative coolers genuinely effective, which is why they are one of the most traded appliances in the city. On a used cooler, check the pump, run it at every fan speed, look for rust or cracks in the tank, and see whether the cooling pads need replacing — they are inexpensive, but factor them in. On an AC, have it running when you arrive, feel the cooling at the vent, check the outdoor unit for rust and rattle, and ask the age, the last service date and whether the gas has been refilled. Buying either out of season usually gets a better price.
Other appliances
- Fridge. Should be switched on when you arrive. Test the door seal, check the base for rust and listen to the compressor.
- Washing machine. Ask for a short cycle and watch for leaks, shaking and drainage problems. Hard water is common here, so check the drum and heater area for scale.
- Geyser. Scale from hard water shortens element life. Ask its age and whether the element has been replaced.
- Bill and model year. The rating sticker gives the year; the invoice proves ownership and any remaining warranty.
Collection
Buyers normally arrange transport, usually a tempo. Confirm lift access and society shifting hours if the seller lives in an apartment, carry a fridge upright, and let it stand for several hours before switching it on.
