Find old and second hand air coolers and fans listed by people across India — desert coolers, personal and tower coolers, ceiling fans, pedestal, table and wall fans, and energy-saving BLDC fans. Coolers and fans are simple machines, so a well-kept used one can serve for many more summers.

Desert, personal or tower cooler?
- Desert coolers — large tank and a strong fan, best for big rooms and dry heat in north and central India. They need cross-ventilation and a window or open door.
- Personal and tower coolers — smaller tank, suited to a single room or a bedroom corner. They are easier to move but cool a smaller area.
In humid coastal cities, coolers work less well because the air is already moist; a good fan may be the better buy there.
How to check a used cooler
- Water tank. Fill it with water and leave it a while. Look for drips at the drain plug, corners and base. A cracked tank is hard to repair well.
- Pump. Switch on the cooling mode and confirm water reaches the top and wets all the pads evenly. A dead or weak pump is common in used coolers.
- Pads. Wood wool (aspen) and honeycomb pads harden, collect scale and smell with age. They are replaceable, so factor in new pads rather than rejecting the cooler.
- Motor and fan. Run it on every speed. Listen for grinding, rattling or a loud hum, and check that the swing louvres move.
- Body and wiring. Metal coolers rust at the base; plastic bodies crack at the wheels. Check the cable and plug for cuts and burn marks.
Ceiling fans: regular or BLDC
A regular ceiling fan uses an induction motor and works with a standard regulator. A BLDC fan uses less power and usually runs from a remote, so ask for the remote and test all speeds. On any used ceiling fan, spin the blades by hand to check for a smooth, quiet bearing, look for bent or mismatched blades that cause wobble, and ask whether the canopy and downrod are included. For pedestal and table fans, check the guard, the oscillation and the height lock.
When to buy, price and a safe deal
Demand for coolers and fans rises sharply as summer starts, so buying in late winter or after the monsoon usually gives more choice and more room to negotiate. Compare the asking price with similar current listings. Always run the appliance at the seller's place, pay only after checking it, and never send an advance online or share an OTP or scan a QR code to "receive" money — read our safety tips. Drain the tank before carrying a cooler home.
