Browse used bicycles listed by people across India — gear and non-gear cycles, mountain bikes, hybrids, road bikes and kids' cycles from Hero, Firefox, Btwin, Montra, Trek, Giant and others. Many were bought for fitness and ridden only a few times.
Contact the seller directly, take a test ride and pay only after inspecting the cycle. Olditems takes no commission and never handles payment or delivery.
Choose the right type
- Non-gear (single speed). Simple, cheap to maintain and fine for flat daily rides.
- Mountain bike (MTB). Wide tyres and front suspension for broken roads and trails. Heavier on smooth roads.
- Hybrid. Lighter, with thinner tyres, for city commuting and fitness rides.
- Road bike. Drop handlebars and thin tyres for speed on good roads.
- Kids' cycles. Sized by wheel diameter, commonly 12, 16 and 20 inches. Children outgrow them quickly, which is why good used ones are common.
Get the frame size right
Stand over the top tube with both feet flat — you should have a little clearance. When seated with the pedal at its lowest point, your leg should be nearly straight. Frame sizes differ between brands, so ask the seller for the size printed on the frame and test ride before deciding.
Inspection checklist
- Frame. Look closely around the welds, the head tube and where the seat and chain stays meet. Cracks, dents and fresh paint over one spot are red flags; a cracked frame is not worth repairing.
- Chain and cassette. A stretched chain skips under load and wears out the gear teeth. Look for rust, stiff links and hooked or sharp teeth on the rear cassette and front chainrings.
- Gears. Shift through every gear while riding. Changes should be quick and quiet, without slipping or chain drop.
- Brakes. V-brakes should have pads with grooves left; disc brakes should stop firmly without rubbing. Squeeze each lever hard — it should not reach the handlebar.
- Wheels and tyres. Spin each wheel and watch for wobble. Check tyres for cracks and worn tread, and the suspension fork for oil or clunking.
Invoice and theft risk
Bicycles, especially branded geared ones, are often stolen and resold quickly. Ask for the original bill, check the frame number stamped under the bottom bracket, and be wary of a seller who cannot explain where it came from or pushes for a quick cash deal elsewhere.
