Delhi enforces vehicle age rules that do not apply in most other cities: diesel vehicles over ten years and petrol vehicles over fifteen years are not permitted to ply in the NCT, so a vehicle's age directly affects whether it can legally be used here at all, and what happens to it afterwards. Before you commit, check:
Start the engine from cold — a warm start hides a lot. Listen for knocking, look at the exhaust smoke, and check for oil leaks underneath. Test the brakes, clutch, gears, lights and indicators, and feel for pull under braking. Look along the body panels in daylight for uneven paint and gaps that suggest accident repair, and check the tyres, including the spare, for uneven wear. A professional inspection before you buy is cheap compared with what it can save you.
List the year, kilometres, fuel type, owner number, insurance validity and service history, and say plainly whether the vehicle is Delhi-compliant on age. Keep every document ready.
