Kolkata buys electronics the Chandni Chowk market way: test it in front of the seller, then pay. Do exactly that in a private deal and used TVs, audio equipment, cameras and gadgets here are very good value.
Browse the listings below, contact the owner directly and inspect in person.
How to test
- Power it on and leave it on. Faults show after a few minutes, not in the first thirty seconds.
- Bring your own cable and pen drive and test every port yourself.
- Screens. Plain white and plain black images expose dead pixels, lines and patchy backlight.
- Humidity. Kolkata's damp is hard on electronics. Check ports and contacts for green or white corrosion, hold camera lenses to the light to look for fungus, and smell speakers for mildew.
- Old audio. Kolkata turns up more vintage audio than most cities. Test every input, listen at both low and high volume, and check the cones and surrounds.
- Bill and serial number. Match the serial with the box and invoice and check the remaining warranty.
Where listings come from
Salt Lake, New Town, Rajarhat and Sector V supply recent gear from working professionals and tenants — monitors, TVs, speakers and gadgets. North and central Kolkata, Behala, Tollygunge and Garia list household electronics from families, and this is also where older audio equipment and interesting odds and ends surface. Howrah listings appear here too; check the locality before planning the trip. See also home & garden in Kolkata and art & collectibles.
