Bengaluru has one of the busiest used electronics markets in India, driven by people who move in, upgrade and move on. Monitors, TVs, sound bars, cameras, headphones and smart-home gadgets come up from Whitefield, Marathahalli, HSR Layout, Koramangala and Electronic City all year.
These are private sellers, so you deal with the owner directly, test the item, and pay no commission.
Testing used electronics before you pay
- Power it on in front of you. Meet at the seller’s flat, their apartment lobby or a café where the item can be plugged in.
- Monitors and TVs. Check for dead pixels on white and black screens, test every input with your own cable, and look for backlight bleed in a dim room.
- Headphones and speakers. Pair them with your own phone, play something you know well at low and high volume, and check the battery holds charge. Worn ear pads are cheap to replace; a failing battery often is not.
- Cameras. Ask for the shutter count, check the lens for fungus or haze and the sensor for dust, and take a few test shots.
- Imported models. Items bought abroad may have no Indian warranty and a different plug. Ask where it was bought and ask to see the bill.
Where the listings come from
The tech corridors — Whitefield, Outer Ring Road, Sarjapur Road and Electronic City — produce work-from-home gear: monitors, docks, webcams, keyboards and desk speakers. Apartment complexes in JP Nagar, Jayanagar, Hebbal and Yelahanka list family TVs and home audio. SP Road is the place many locals use to compare prices and pick up spares, so it is a useful reference when you are judging a private seller’s asking price.
A fair price and a safe deal
Compare with the same model in current listings and adjust for age, condition and accessories. Be wary of sellers who are “leaving Bengaluru tonight” and want payment before you have seen the item — the relocation story is a common cover. Never pay a token online, share an OTP or scan a QR code to receive money. Our safety tips have more. Budget buyers can start with electronics under ₹10,000.
