Where used beds turn up in Bengaluru
Whitefield and Marathahalli, with their tech parks and large apartment complexes, list beds from tenants on the move all year. Bellandur and the Outer Ring Road stretch are similar, with many queen and storage beds from couples and flat-shares. Electronic City has more budget single beds and cots from younger professionals. HSR Layout and Koramangala mix startup employees in shared flats with established families, so both simple frames and solid king beds appear. Older neighbourhoods such as Jayanagar, Malleshwaram and Basavanagudi are where solid wood bedsteads occasionally list.
Size, storage and build
Sizes are usually given in inches: roughly 72 x 36 for a single, 72 x 60 or 78 x 60 for a queen, and 72 x 72 or 78 x 72 for a king. Ask for the real measurement and check it against your room and your mattress. On a hydraulic bed, lift the base yourself — it should rise smoothly and hold. On box storage, open each lid and check the base panels for sag or cracks. Engineered wood is lighter and cheaper; solid wood lasts longer and can be repolished.
What to check before you buy
- Joints and bolts. Shake the headboard and each corner. Creaks and sway mean loose fittings or stripped screw holes.
- Termite. Look for tiny holes, powdery dust and soft patches on the legs and the underside of slats.
- Dismantling and reassembly. Ask who will dismantle it. Photograph it before it comes apart and keep all bolts in a bag.
- Mattress. Check for sagging, stains, bedbugs and smell. Buying the frame only is often the safer choice.
Moving it and staying safe
Apartment complexes usually need a gate pass and a booked service lift. Agree who pays for the tempo, and plan around traffic — Whitefield to Electronic City across the city is a long trip. Meet at the seller's home, see the bed and pay in person. Never send an advance online, and never share an OTP or scan a QR code to receive money.
