Where used beds come from in Pune
Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner and Balewadi have a steady stream of beds from flat-shares and company-leased apartments — usually single or queen sizes in engineered wood, a few years old. Kharadi and Viman Nagar list more queen and king beds with storage from family flats. Kothrud, Karve Nagar and the areas around the colleges on the west side follow the academic year, with single cots and diwans appearing around admissions and exams. Older homes in the city centre and Camp occasionally list solid teak or sheesham bedsteads that outlast most new beds.
Size and storage
Sellers usually give sizes in inches. A single bed is around 72 x 36, a queen 72 x 60 or 78 x 60, and a king 72 x 72 or 78 x 72 — always confirm the actual measurement. Measure your room, and your mattress if you plan to reuse it. Hydraulic storage beds should lift smoothly and stay up on their own; weak struts need replacing. With box storage, open every panel and check the base boards have not sagged or cracked.
What to check before you buy
- Joints. Push the headboard and shake the frame. A bed that sways has loose bolts or worn joints.
- Monsoon damp and termite. Look at the legs, the base and the underside of the storage boards for swelling, soft edges or dark stains. Check solid wood for tiny holes and powdery dust, a sign of termite or borer.
- Dismantling. Ask whether the bed comes apart and whether the seller will help. Keep the bolts together and photograph the frame before it is taken apart so reassembly is easy.
- Mattress hygiene. Check for sagging, stains and smell. Many buyers take the frame only and buy a new mattress.
Transport and safety
A dismantled bed fits in a small tempo. Agree who pays, and check lift access and society shifting hours at both ends. Meet at the seller's home and pay only at handover — never send a token online, and never share an OTP or scan a QR code to receive money. See our safety tips.
