Where used sofas turn up in Delhi
South Delhi — Lajpat Nagar, Saket, Malviya Nagar, Greater Kailash and Kalkaji — is where larger sectionals and recliners appear, often because a family is upgrading rather than because the sofa is worn out. Dwarka and Rohini, with their big DDA and group-housing societies, list a steady run of family sofa sets as people move within the city or out to Gurgaon and Noida. North Campus, Mukherjee Nagar and Laxmi Nagar follow the student and coaching calendar, so compact two-seaters and futons show up around the start and end of the academic year. East Delhi around Mayur Vihar and Preet Vihar sits in between.
Before you negotiate, walk through the Kirti Nagar furniture market or look at a few new-sofa listings online. Knowing what a comparable new piece costs is the fairest benchmark for a used one — far better than the price the seller paid years ago.
How to check a second hand sofa
- Frame. Lift one corner a few inches. A solid frame lifts as one piece; a creak, twist or loose arm means broken joints inside.
- Foam and cushions. Sit in every seat, not just the best one. Seats that sink far or stay dented have tired foam — replaceable, but a cost to factor in.
- Springs and webbing. Press the base under the cushions. Sagging straps or a spring you can feel point to a rebuild.
- Fabric, stains and odour. Check under the cushions and along the back. Smell the upholstery: pets, smoke and damp all linger.
- Mechanisms. Operate the recliner or sofa-cum-bed several times. It should open and close smoothly without forcing.
Getting it home in Delhi
A three-seater usually fits in a small tempo; a full sectional or 3+1+1 set may need a larger loader. Agree before paying who arranges and pays for transport. Ask whether the sofa dismantles — many sectionals unbolt into modules and many sofas have removable legs, which matters for narrow DDA stairwells and builder-floor staircases. Check the lift size and any RWA timing rules at both ends.
Stay safe
Meet the seller at the address where the sofa is kept, in daylight. Never pay an advance or "token" online to hold an item you have not seen, and never scan a QR code or share an OTP to "receive" money. Read our safety tips before you go.
