Before you list: clean it and measure it
- Clean it properly. Vacuum the seats, gaps and underside, wash removable covers and spot-clean stains. A fresh-looking sofa sells far faster than a dusty one, and a shampoo or steam clean is often worth it for fabric sofas.
- Measure it. Width, depth and height of each piece, and the seat count (3+2, 3+1+1, L-shape). "Will it fit through my door and in the lift?" is the first question every buyer asks.
- Note the material. Fabric, leatherette or genuine leather; solid wood (teak, sheesham) or engineered frame; foam or spring seats. Buyers search by these words.
How to price a used sofa
Ignore what you paid. Look at what similar sofas — same seat count, material and condition — are listed for in your city today, and adjust for age, sagging cushions, torn fabric and peeling leatherette. Solid wood frames and branded sets hold value better than engineered wood. Our furniture price calculator gives you a starting range. Ask a little above the figure you would accept, so there is room to bargain.
Photos that sell a sofa
Shoot in daylight in a tidy room: the full set from the front and at an angle, each piece on its own, a close-up of the fabric, the legs and frame, and any stain or tear. Honest photos of flaws save you wasted visits.
Selling it fast
- Put the dimensions, material and seat count in the title — "3+2 sheesham wood sofa set, fabric, 6 ft" beats "sofa for sale".
- Mention your area, the floor and whether there is a lift, so buyers can plan transport.
- Say clearly that the buyer arranges the tempo and labour. Olditems does not arrange pickup.
- Moving soon? List two to three weeks ahead so you are not forced to accept the first low offer.
Selling safely
Let the buyer inspect at your home with someone else present, take the full payment before the sofa leaves, and check that the money has reached your bank account — not a screenshot. Never share an OTP or scan a buyer's QR code to receive money. More in our safety tips.
